Enhancing the production of handmade carpets in Syria
“This craft was exposed to a big shock through the Syrian crises which made it severely difficult to get the raw materials & the maintenance; or to reach the markets” NGO representative.
On the 12th -13th Oct 2016, 26 experts from Rural Damascus, Lattakia and Tartous participated in Capacity Development Support Workshop organized by the International Organization for Migration in Damascus with joint efforts with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and in collaboration with local NGOs. The workshop aimed to introduce the challenges faced by the Handmade Carpets Cooperatives of the Ministry of social Affairs and to propose policies and mechanisms for the enhancement of working conditions in order to ensure the continuity, efficiency and workers satisfaction of this traditional industry and its transition to new generations.
“This workshop will contribute in enhancing work condition which ensure the efficiency & the protection of the rights of the working ladies & guarantees the continuity of this traditional craft”.
