Displaced families in Aleppo receive Shelter Kits

“We were trapped by the fighting for two days. It was a miracle we made our way out; people were falling along the way trying to escape.” Adam said, an 80 years old grandfather who fled 1070 area due to increased fighting. ”my biggest concern was to keep my family members altogether,” He added.

As a response to the sudden displacement of affected population from 1070 area, IOM Syria provided assistance to people sought a safe haven in other areas in western part of the city. Between 30 August and 3 September, IOM Syria distributed  21 sealing of shelter kits to 21 displaced families (116 beneficiaries) who are currently living in makeshift shelters. In addition, IOM assistance included hiring local carpenters to install the shelter kits. “At first we slept all together under plastic sheets with my children and grandchildren. We were very tired. But thanks to IOM, we have a private space now.” Adam said. More on Adam’s story can be found here.

An additional 279 sealing of kits will be distributed in the coming two weeks, thanks to the generous contribution of the Government of Australia.
