Aid delivered to displaced families from Darraya and Moadamiyeh in Rural Damascus

After over three years of besiegement, the people of Darraya leave their city for the first time. Over 900 displaced persons from Darraya were evacuated from the cities of Darraya and Moadamiyeh to a shelter in Herjaleh in Kisweh of Rural Damascus. So far, about 800 IDPs are provided with accommodation in the prefab units located in the shelter.

Following the evacuation, IOM, jointly with UN agencies, completed a round of initial assessments to evaluate the needs of the new arrivals. As a result of the assessments, IOM provided aid to newly displaced families in Rural Damascus on September 8th and 10th, 2016. The aid provided included 100 housecleaning kits, 170 underwear kits, 100 baby diapers and wheelchairs. The distribution took place in coordination with IOM’s partner: Syria Trust.

“Thanks for being prepared to help my son with this wheelchair, he really needed it,” a mother of a disabled child from Daraya told IOM staff, “and thank you for all the kits,” she added.
